Just wanted to wish everyone a happy Earth Day.
This is was from a recent shoot with a friend and local Bend-ite, Heather Clark. I wanted to put together some pieces that really represented who Heather is. Heather writes bicycling articles for The Bulletin in Bend and is an avid bike racer (road/mtn/CX) and always has a smile. Along with some shots of her in her team kit we decided to do some more lifestyle piece (more of both to come). But since it is Earth Day, I decided to share a preview of some that have a close tie in to the spirit of today.
Heather hooked me up with Eric at Bend Velo who has a line of re-purposed bike called J. Livingston. Eric takes old steel bikes which may just be collecting dust and turns them into viable (and quite stylish) alternative transportation (find out more about J. Livingston bikes here). While talking with Eric, we started discussing some of the vendors he works with and he mentioned Sara Bella* Upcycled located on Bend’s West side. The owner, who happens to be named Sara :), takes what other would considers trash and turns it some great usable pieces like purses, totes, wallets, dresses and bicycle basket liners. Sara’s creation are fun, whimsical and usable. The great thing about both Eric and Sara is that they are showing the practical uses of what might be considered dump fodder by others.
